Mr Naveed Yasin

Consultant Complex Spine Surgeon

MBBCh(Hons), FRCS (Tr & Ortho)

I qualified from Cardiff University in 2002 with honours and went on to complete my surgical training in the North West. I completed my advanced spinal training in Manchester as well as an internationally recognised fellowship in complex spines Australia. I have further developed my knowledge and skills with experiences in visiting other spine centres throughout the world.

Currently I work in the Complex Spine Surgery department at Salford Royal Hospital, which is one of the largest spinal surgical facilities in Europe. I am regularly invited to teach and speak at national and international meetings. I teach on several courses including spinal tumours masterclass as well as being an Honorary Lecturer at both Salford University and Manchester University where I am an academic advisor. I teach allied health professionals such as specialised physiotherapists.

I am on the SRS Spinal register as one of the few UK surgeons recognised internationally as a spine specialist and receive patients from throughout the world.

My speciality is complex spine surgery including spinal reconstruction procedures as well as minimally invasive and tumour surgery. I carry out microscopic spinal surgery to facilitate early recovery. My expertise is all aspects of spinal surgery including spinal deformities as well as spinal pain and arm or sciatica pain from disc herniation.

I am an advocate of using a multi-disciplinary approach to managing spinal conditions including working with allied health professionals such as specialist physiotherapists as well as other spinal surgeons to ensure best care is provided for all my patients.

I have national and international presentations as well as research publications. These include aspects of patient outcomes as well as patient safety such as minimising need for blood transfusion in major spinal surgeries.

I have a firm belief in measuring outcomes and I am the only spinal surgeon in the UK with outcome measures available to the public. My work on spinal surgical outcomes is published and has been quoted in the national media.
