MBChB MSc MRCS FRCS (Tr&Orth)
I am a dual-fellowship trained Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in disorders of the knee and hip. I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2009 and completed my higher orthopaedic specialist training on the North West (Manchester) rotation, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2020.
Following completion of training, I undertook two advanced sub-specialty fellowships to further develop my expertise in hip and knee arthritis, partial and total knee replacement, joint preservation surgery for early arthritis, and sports injuries including meniscal and ligament pathology. I was selected for the highly competitive Wrightington Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship, gaining extensive experience in complex primary and revision hip and knee surgery, followed by a fellowship at the Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit focusing on complex knee disorders, sports injuries, robotic knee surgery and joint preservation techniques.
I specialise in the assessment and treatment of conditions affecting the knee and hip. My practice includes the management of sports-related injuries, ligament and meniscal injuries, patellofemoral instability, and cartilage disorders, as well as arthritis of the knee and hip. I perform joint preservation procedures such as osteotomy and cartilage repair, ligament reconstruction and repair, alongside partial and total knee replacement surgery, including robotic-assisted techniques. I offer both surgical and non-surgical treatments, tailoring care to each patient to optimise function, recovery, and long-term joint health.
Throughout my training, I sought additional opportunities to broaden my experience through international fellowships at world-renowned centres. I was awarded the competitive BOA Travelling Fellowship, spending three weeks at the Endo Klinik in Hamburg, a global leader in complex revision arthroplasty and prosthetic joint infection. I was also awarded the Charnley Latta Fellowship, undertaking a four-week travelling fellowship in the United States with visits to leading institutions including the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, the Cleveland Clinic, and the Mayo Clinic. These experiences have shaped an evidence-based, patient-specific approach to my practice. I believe patients should be fully informed about their treatment options and place clear communication, empathy, and shared decision-making at the centre of every consultation.
I am actively involved in clinical research to ensure my practice reflects the most up-to-date evidence-based treatments. I have contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications, including three papers published in The Lancet, and regularly present my work at national and international conferences. I am a faculty member on courses for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Wrightington Lower Limb Unit, and I am frequently invited to teach on specialist courses for trainees preparing for intercollegiate examinations.
Alongside my clinical practice, I provide clinical oversight and medical care to professional athletes at national and international sporting events including at major events such as the UFC and Giants Live (World’s Strongest Man competition).
Alongside my clinical practice, I am actively involved in humanitarian surgery and have participated in and led multiple missions to disaster zones, providing both life-saving surgical care and medical training. I have worked with surgeons from many parts of the world and have taken part in more than ten international missions to date. I am a faculty board member of the David Nott Foundation and remain committed to supporting surgical care, education, and capacity building in challenging environments.
