Open abdominal hysterectomy and open ovarian cystectomy are also one of my surgical expertise.
I am proud of being able to provide not only the most up-to-date treatment choices that are backed up by the most recent evidence-based data but also, I strive to work in partnership with my patients to deliver a tailored, individualised and personal treatment plan. I am recognised by most reputable medical insurers in the UK.
My clinical and surgical skills and experience are backed up by a diploma in minimal access surgery from the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE). Additionally, I am an active member of the British and International Societies of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE & ISGE).
I had my initial training overseas at a major university teaching hospital in Cairo where I obtained my first master’s degree in obstetrics and gynaecology. I then completed my second master’s degree from Palermo University in Italy before moving to the UK.
In the UK, I had a chance to develop my interest in gynaecology and further refine my skills and experience specially related to minimal access surgery, both laparoscopic and hysteroscopic in a variety of settings including multiple District general hospitals and University teaching hospitals across the UK. This rich exposure to a variety of settings and schools of practice has been integral to my current wealth of experience across the width and depth of the specialty. I enforced my skills in minimal access surgery and the subspecialty of endometriosis by working and getting mentored by one of the most experienced surgeons within the specialty in Sheffield.
I currently practice as a consultant gynaecologist and endometriosis specialist at Sheffield Endometriosis Centre, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation trust. I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis and endometriosis related pelvic pain, medical and surgical treatment of endometriosis and minimal access surgery (keyhole surgery). My scope of practice also includes management of period problems including heavy, painful and irregular periods, medical and surgical treatment of fibroids and management of pre and postmenopausal ovarian cysts.
I am an honorary senior lecturer at The University of Sheffield and I am a medical appraiser at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. I am a recognised instructor of ALSO UK and I facilitate a number of training courses for young gynaecologists to help and expand their experience in minimal access surgery and benign gynaecological conditions. Teaching and training have always been an inspiring and fruitful aspect of my career.
I have led several service improvement projects over the years which have been highlighted in medical journals and published at national and international gynaecological meetings.
