Mr Ivo Dukic

Consultant Urologist

BSc, MBChB, PGCert FRCSEd(Urol)

I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon with over 20 years of experience, based in Birmingham and serving patients across the West Midlands and nationally. Fellowship-trained in endourology at the Bristol Urological Institute, I have built a reputation as one of the highest-volume kidney stone surgeons in the UK, regularly accepting complex tertiary referrals from across the country.

Alongside my surgical practice, I serve as Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust — a leadership role that reflects my commitment to technology-enabled, evidence-based care. My practice offers rapid-access appointments, typically within seven days, and I am fully fee-assured with all major health insurers, ensuring complete transparency for both self-paying and insured patients.

I specialise in general urology and endourology, with a particular focus on the kidney, ureter, bladder, and prostate. My core surgical expertise lies in minimally invasive kidney stone surgery, including flexible ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), mini PCNL, and ultra-mini PCNL for large or complex stone burdens.

I also perform extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) and provide comprehensive metabolic stone prevention assessments. Beyond stone disease, I manage a broad range of urological conditions including haematuria (blood in the urine), recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder conditions including bladder cancer, prostate enlargement (BPH) — including modern techniques such as aquablation — prostate cancer assessment and PSA evaluation, as well as testicular, scrotal, and penile conditions. I undertake diagnostic cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, urodynamics, and upper tract surveillance procedures. My practice covers both men's and women's urological health, including stress urinary incontinence and urinary symptoms across all age groups.

I perform approximately 50–70 ureteroscopy and laser stone procedures and 50–60 percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and mini PCNL operations each year, alongside around 100 extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) treatments annually. This consistent, high-volume throughput ensures that patients benefit from a depth of hands-on experience that is difficult to match outside a dedicated stone centre. Beyond stone surgery, I had performed over 1,000 diagnostic and therapeutic cystoscopies by the completion of my surgical training alone, with many hundreds more since.

I have broad experience in the endoscopic management of bladder conditions, prostate surgery, and the surgical treatment of testicular and scrotal disease. My practice has encompassed both planned elective surgery and complex emergency urological care across district general and tertiary hospital settings throughout my career.

Alongside my clinical work, I hold several roles that directly support and improve the care I provide. At University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, I am Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer, where I lead on bringing new digital tools and technology into everyday clinical practice. I am the West Midlands Urology Educational Lead and was awarded West Midlands Urology Trainer of the Year 2025–2026.

I am a member of the national urology exit examination panel (FRCS Urology) and faculty for the National Urology Bootcamp. Since 2013, I have been Section Editor for the Digital Review in Urology News, covering technology developments relevant to urology and related specialties.

I publish actively in peer-reviewed journals, with research covering kidney stone surgery, endourology, men's health, and digital healthcare. I have contributed as a medical expert to ITV News and BBC Good Food. I am also a founding member of the Birmingham Urology Centre, a group of specialist urologists working collaboratively across Birmingham and the West Midlands to ensure patients have access to the full breadth of urological expertise.
