Mr Hani Nasef

Consultant ENT Head & Neck, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgeon

MB BCh, MSc (ENT), PhD (ENT), DOHNS/MRCS(ENT), FRCS (ORL-HNS)

"The facilities and team at Spire Portsmouth help me deliver precise surgery with a personal touch."

I am a Consultant ENT, Head & Neck, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, with more than 19 years of ENT experience. I manage a broad range of adult and paediatric ENT conditions, with particular expertise in head and neck cancer surgery, thyroid and parathyroid disease, and complex salivary gland and sinus disorders. I run a private practice at Spire Portsmouth Hospital, where I offer personalised, evidence-based care in a modern and patient-centred setting.

My practice covers the full spectrum of ENT surgery, including thyroidectomy, parathyroid exploration, and targeted parathyroidectomy using rapid intra-operative PTH monitoring. I also perform major head and neck cancer resections with neck dissection, parotid and submandibular gland surgery, and reconstructive procedures. In addition, I manage nasal and sinus disorders using advanced endoscopic techniques, perform tonsil and adenoid surgery, and treat snoring and sleep-related breathing disorders.

Since my appointment as a consultant in May 2021, I have performed more than 225 head and neck cancer operations, more than 70 parotid operations, more than 280 thyroid operations, and more than 170 parathyroid operations. I utilise intra-operative nerve monitoring, parathyroid autofluorescence, and rapid peri-operative PTH testing to maximise safety and ensure excellent surgical outcomes. My complication rates are very low, and patients benefit from a consistently high success rate in targeted parathyroid surgery.

I am the mortality lead in the ENT department, I have also been responsible for the training pathway for many middle grade ENT doctors and trainees.

I lead the Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and am a core member of the Head & Neck Cancer MDT. These roles involve coordinating multidisciplinary treatment pathways across surgery, endocrinology, oncology, radiology, and pathology to ensure every patient receives a balanced, evidence-based management plan.

I worked as an ENT lecturer in faculty of medicine, faculty of Alexandria, Egypt, before coming to the UK. I also undertake medico-legal expert witness work, providing independent reports on noise-induced hearing loss, tinnitus, and related ENT conditions.

My philosophy is to provide clear explanations, shared decision-making, and treatment plans tailored to each individual. I focus on achieving the best functional and cosmetic outcomes while ensuring patients feel supported and fully informed throughout their journey. My aim is to deliver expert surgical care with empathy and reassurance, helping patients feel confident in their recovery.
