Mr Greg Simpson

Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon

MBChB(Hons) FRCS(Eng) MMed

I graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2010 with an honour's degree in medicine and surgery and a first class honour's degree in human anatomy and cell biology. I went on to complete my surgical training in the North West of England, specialising in general surgery and colorectal surgery with a subspecialist interest in complex abdominal wall reconstruction.

During training, I published widely and had a specific interest in outcomes following major surgery and the effect of a patients muscle mass on their outcomes. I went on to be awarded the John of Arderne Medal by the Royal Society of Medicine for my work in this area. At the end of my training, I was awarded the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland Gold Medal, having been the top performing surgical registrar in the UK in the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS exams.

Following completion of surgical training, I completed a fellowship in the National Intestinal Failure Unit in Salford, UK, learning techniques in complex and re-operative surgery. During this time, I was able to gain significant experience in complex abdominal wall reconstruction.

I am fully trained in robotic surgery and perform most of my operations using the da Vinci surgical robot. I have travelled to learn from surgeons in USA, Austria, France and Spain to develop expertise in robotic abdominal wall reconstruction.

I specialise in colorectal and general surgery, particularly in minimally-invasive or 'keyhole' surgery using robotic surgical systems.

I treat all colorectal and general surgery conditions and have a special interest in the treatment of complex, large or difficult hernias. I have a significant interest in robotic and open complex abdominal wall reconstruction. I performed the first robotic abdominal wall reconstruction in the North West and have performed more of these operations than any other surgeon in the UK currently.

In addition to hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction, I have a practice in colorectal cancer treatment using 'keyhole' techniques and in benign colorectal conditions.
