I have been a consultant in Portsmouth since 1999. I am a General Surgeon with a major interest in colorectal surgery. My clinical work involves emergency surgical care and elective management of patients with colorectal disease. My private practice is based at Spire Portsmouth Hospital, where I have a weekly clinic, operating sessions and colonoscopy facilities.
Benign and malignant colorectal disease account for the majority of my NHS and private practice. Much of my elective practice has concerned complex and re-operative surgery including intestinal failure.
I have held several positions that have enabled me to improve surgical care in Portsmouth including Surgical Lead, Surgical High Care Unit, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
I graduated with honors from University College Dublin and trained in surgery at FRCSI. I then completed a Research Fellowship at Boston University, USA. I completed my higher surgical training in Bristol and the South West. And completed training in colorectal surgery at St Mark’s Hospital, London – the pre-eminent referral centre for complex colorectal disease in the UK.
I obtained first place and the gold medal of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland in the Intercollegiate Examination in Surgery 1997. I have written chapters in four books and have written or collaborated on 37 Peer-reviewed publications. I am a former trainer for M27 Coloproctology course.
