I studied dentistry at Bristol and read medicine at Cambridge. I was awarded the Gold medal of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. My surgical training has included general surgery and transplant surgery. I was awarded the general surgical FRCS in 1994. I have also undertaken higher surgical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, specialising in oncology and trauma surgery.
I was awarded the FRCS in maxillofacial surgery in 1999 and have certification for the specialist surgical lists in maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery and surgical dentistry. I was awarded a Master of Surgery (MChir) degree from Cambridge University in 2006 for my research into facial reconstruction and free flap donor site morbidity.
General interests include minor oral surgery and oral mucosal disease. My special interests include head, neck and oral cancer, salivary gland surgery, facial trauma and facial dermatosurgery. I also undertake dental extractions under general anaesthetic (on a day case patient basis) for patients declining dental treatment under local anaesthetic or sedation.
I am Chairman of the University Hospitals of Leicester Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team.
