"Spire Parkway Hospital, Solihull is a well reputed hospital providing outstanding care with a patient centred approach."
I am a highly skilled Consultant Breast Surgeon with an extensive background in breast diseases. With 30 years of experience as a breast and general surgeon, I have cultivated a wealth of knowledge and expertise in this field. My journey began at Nishar Medical University, where I undertook my basic surgical training. In 1992, I joined Sheikh Zayed University Lahore Pakistan as a postgraduate registrar, starting training as a breast trainee at the tertiary centre.
In 1995, I moved to the United Kingdom to pursue further training in Lancashire and Yorkshire. I completed training in West Yorkshire before relocating to Birmingham, where I also worked as a Consultant Breast Surgeon and General Surgeon in Merseyside. A member of the Association of Breast Surgeons, I am dedicated to mentoring and supervising trainee doctors and serve as an examiner for FCPS Part 3 in breast surgery for the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Pakistan. To continually enhance my knowledge and stay updated with the latest advancements, I actively participate in national and international conferences and recommended courses. I also engage in research projects as a Principal Investigator within my unit, contributing to the advancement of breast surgery and cancer care. I have served as Principal Investigator for many national and international trials such as IBIS2, Age Gap study, POSNAC, and LORIS.
Currently, I am focused exclusively on breast surgery, particularly breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. I am affiliated with the University Hospital of Birmingham Foundation NHS Trust, where I have served as a Clinical Service Lead and multidisciplinary chair in the breast unit. I am now acting as Director of Breast Screening.
I operate a one-stop breast clinic, available on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons, and Friday afternoons at Spire Parkway Hospital. This clinic employs a triple assessment approach to comprehensively evaluate and diagnose breast problems in both women and men during a single visit. I also provide consultation and advice to patients with a family history of breast cancer.
My specialisation encompasses the management of all aspects of breast diseases, with a significant focus on breast cancer. My surgical expertise includes a wide range of breast cancer procedures such as mastectomy, breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy), axillary staging for breast cancer using sentinel biopsy techniques, axillary clearance, microdiscectomy, subareolar duct excision for nipple discharge, breast infection, nipple surgery, removal of implants, management of inverted nipples, removal of benign breast lumps, removal of armpit lumps, and reshaping mammoplasty following breast cancer removal. I undertake major reconstruction surgery; plastic surgeon breast reconstruction is a complex and delicate process, and having a team approach allows for a more comprehensive treatment plan tailored to each patient's unique needs. By working together, they can address both the medical and aesthetic aspects of the reconstruction, providing a holistic and patient-centred approach.
