I have been a consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain management for more than 10 years. I specialise in treating patients with chronic low back pain and spinal pain. In addition to my private practice at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, I work as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain medicine at Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) NHS Trust.
I have a special interest in spinal cord stimulator and peripheral nerve stimulator for treating chronic neuropathic pain conditions. I am the Clinical Lead for neuromodulation in HUTH NHS Trust. I have received clinical excellence award in HUTH for my work in governance roles and establishing spinal cord stimulator service. I am very experienced in both the assessment and management of many chronic pain conditions.
My areas of interest include: acute and chronic back pain and sciatica, cervical brachialgia (neck, shoulder and arm pain), spinal pain involving neck and lower back, neuropathic (nerve) pain, head and facial pain, musculoskeletal pain, pain arising from large joints secondary to osteoarthritis such as shoulder, hip and knee joint pain, abdominal and pelvic pain, chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome.
Â
I have specialty expertise in the following treatment options
I have more than 11 years of consultant level experience in managing patients with chronic pain. I am proficient in radiology guided and ultrasound guided interventional procedures and regularly do pain interventions and radiofrequency treatments for managing chronic back pain and neck pain conditions. I have refined my skills in managing common painful conditions as well as more obscure pain disorders.
I adopt a holistic approach to pain management, taking in to account the multidimensional nature of chronic pain. I focus on improving the quality of life and functioning of my patients by offering a wide range of interventional procedures and pharmacologic management for their painful conditions. I work with multidisciplinary team and have established the Neuromodulation MDT in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
I have rich experience in my field having graduated in 1999 from Chennai, India. Pursuing my interest in pain medicine, I moved to the UK and completed my specialist registrar anaesthetic training in the East Anglia and then in Glasgow, Scotland. I became a Fellow of the Royal college of Surgeons of Ireland in 2008, and Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2008.
I then went on to complete my pain medicine fellowship at the Aberdeen Royal infirmary and completed my European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia and Pain medicine in 2012. I became a Fellow of Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2013.
I firmly believe in the role of early intervention and the appropriate use of multidisciplinary techniques in treating pain disorders. My clinics aim to offer a comprehensive diagnostic and investigative service complemented by appropriate interventions.
In order to keep abreast of the latest treatment modalities in pain management, I maintain an active membership in Neuromodulation Society of United Kingdom and Ireland, Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland, British Pain Society and European Society of Regional Anaesthesia.
