MA(cantab), MBBChir, MRCP, PhD
I am a Consultant Cardiologist at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. I have over 15 years of experience as a doctor looking after adult patients with a range of heart conditions, as well as expertise in the management of angina and heart attacks.
I specialise in general adult cardiology which includes treating patients with common problems such as palpitations, chest pain and shortness of breath, as well as addressing the risk factors for heart disease such as blood pressure and cholesterol. I have a particular expertise in the management of coronary artery disease including assessing chest pain, coronary angiography/angioplasty, and the care of patients with heart attacks and angina.
I studied medicine at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge. Following this, I attained my membership of the Royal College of Physicians during my time working at the Imperial College Hospitals in London. I was awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship within the East Midlands which culminated in a prestigious BHF-funded research grant for my work on the molecular mechanisms underling coronary artery disease. This was awarded with a PhD. I went on to complete my training in General and Interventional Cardiology at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, following which I was awarded the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Fellowship. I undertook this at the Flinders Hospital in Adelaide, specialising in structural and complex coronary intervention.
As a Consultant Interventional Cardiologists at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, I am a high-volume operator in percutaneous coronary intervention, performing more than 250 cases per year. This includes diagnostic angiography, invasive assessment of coronary physiology, intravascular imaging, advanced calcium modification techniques and coronary intervention for high risk cases. To date, I have performed over 2,000 procedures using state-of-the-art techniques.
