I am a heart specialist (cardiologist) who focuses on treating problems with the heart's arteries and valves using keyhole procedures rather than open-heart surgery. I have been working as a consultant in this field for over four years and have helped many patients with heart and valve conditions.
I specialise in treating problems with the heart's arteries and valves using modern, keyhole (minimally invasive) techniques. This includes opening blocked heart arteries to improve blood flow and reduce chest pain, as well as replacing or repairing damaged heart valves without the need for open-heart surgery. I regularly perform procedures such as TAVI, which replaces the aortic valve through a small tube in the leg, and mitral valve repair, which helps the heart pump more efficiently. I also treat patients with complex coronary disease and other conditions that cause breathlessness, chest discomfort, or reduced heart function. My work focuses on helping patients recover more quickly with less pain and a faster return to daily life.
Over the course of my consultant career, I have carried out more than 1,500 procedures to open blocked heart arteries (PCI) and performed over 500 aortic valve replacements (TAVI) using keyhole techniques. I am also an integral member of the mitral valve intervention team in Wales, where I have been involved in delivering this highly specialised keyhole treatment for more than a year. Through my work, I have gained wide experience in treating patients with complex heart and valve problems, helping them to recover more quickly and return to their normal activities with improved heart function and quality of life.
I have been the Welsh representative for the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society’s Junior Committee, helping to support and develop training for future heart specialists. I played a key role in designing and establishing the benchmark TAVI programme in Cardiff, which improved the treatment pathway and made care safer and more efficient for patients across Wales. I am also an active member of the team leading improvements to interventional cardiology processes, safety, and patient pathways at the University Hospital of Wales.
In addition, I am Co-Director of Medical Notes Solutions, a company that uses modern IT technology to improve medical record-keeping and streamline clinical pathways. I am passionate about improving both the quality of care and the systems that support it, ensuring patients receive the best possible treatment and experience.
