Dr Lucy Mather

GP and Advanced Menopause Specialist

MRCGP,MRCPCh,MBCHB,BMedSci

I am a GP specialising in women’s health, with over 25 years’ experience as a doctor and specialist expertise in menopause and perimenopause care. I am a British Menopause Society accredited Menopause Specialist and take a personalised, whole-person approach, giving women the time to talk through their symptoms, concerns and treatment options and find an approach that is right for them.

I specialise in women’s hormonal health, supporting women through perimenopause and menopause, as well as premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), and early or surgical menopause. I take time to understand your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and individual priorities before discussing the treatment options available to you, with a focus on relieving symptoms while supporting your health and wellbeing for the longer term.

I have over 25 years’ experience working as a doctore and GP in the NHS and private practice, giving me a broad understanding of women’s health and the many ways hormonal changes can affect physical and emotional wellbeing. I place particular importance on listening to women and giving them the time to discuss their symptoms, concerns and priorities fully.

Alongside my clinical practice, I am a GP Appraiser and Clinical Tutor at Manchester Medical School, supporting the education and professional development of doctors. I am also committed to improving understanding of menopause and women’s hormonal health beyond the consulting room, providing menopause education and training to organisations and healthcare professionals and contributing to professional networks focused on improving menopause care.

Professional leadership

I am a Clinical Tutor at the University of Manchester Medical School
I am a GP Appraiser for NHS North West Professional Standard
I am the Founder of The Ginkgo Group, a professional network supporting healthcare professionals working in women’s health and menopause care

Outside of work, I split my time between Wales and Manchester with my husband, who is also a GP, and our two children. I love being outdoors, particularly walking along the beautiful Welsh coastline, and enjoy keeping active at the gym. Having experienced early menopause myself, I also understand some of the challenges hormonal changes can bring to everyday life. This personal experience, alongside my work as a doctor, has strengthened my passion for helping women feel listened to, informed and confident about their health.
