As a Senior Consultant Haematologist and specialist in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, I bring over six years of post-specialist experience gained at a premier NHS teaching hospital and regional Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre. Currently serving as the Chair of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Thrombosis Steering Group, I lead clinical safety initiatives aimed at optimizing the prevention and treatment of blood clots. My clinical practice is defined by expertise both investigation of suspected bleeding disorders and in the bespoke management of complex thrombotic conditions with a particular focus on tailoring anticoagulation to individual patient risk profiles.
I specialise in the investigation of unprovoked thrombosis and suspected bleeding disorders, including identifying both congenital and acquired risk factors. My clinical focus includes the investigation and management of Antiphospholipid Syndrome and I was successful in a bid for charity funding for Leeds Teaching Hospitals to secure the UK's first APS Specialist Nurse from APS Support UK. Alongside developing bespoke long-term anticoagulation plans for high-risk patients, I also provide tailored anticoagulation protocols for those requiring perioperative care. I provide expert guidance on the long-term management of breakthrough thrombosis and the delicate balancing of bleeding versus thrombotic risks.
I graduated with a passion for haematology in 2007 folowing an elective in The Solomon Islands studying Malaria practices. I have been specifically dedicated to the field since 2011, further advancing my specialist expertise through PhD studies at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. In my NHS practice, I am part of a highly specialised team at a large Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre. We were also recently successful in our bid to become one of eight hub centres across the UK to deliver gene therapy for haemophilia. Additionally, I contribute to a regional 24-hour specialist on-call service across Yorkshire, managing haemophilia and complex thrombosis emergencies.
Beyond clinical care, I am a Principal Investigator for international clinical trials and ongoing PhD research into the intersection of the gut microbiome and immune system responses in haemostasis. This commitment to clinical excellence and innovation was recently recognized with the "Fabulousness Award" for my dedication to patient-focused care and the development of streamlined follow-up pathways.
