"The Spire Cheshire Hospital provides me with the environment and resources to provide high quality care to patients, accessing diagnostics without delay."
I have been a practising consultant cardiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust since 2015. I am an expert in the management of heart failure, arrhythmias and cardiometabolic disease (where heart disease occurs in the setting of diabetes and obesity). I implant pacemakers and defibrillators in my NHS practice.
I specialise in the assessment of breathlessness caused by heart conditions. I treat people with heart failure and carry out cardiac device procedures, including pacemakers and defibrillators in my NHS practice. I also have significant expertise in the managing obesity related heart failure.
Since being appointed as a consultant I have held a number of leadership roles, in the NHS and with the NIHR Cardiovascular Research Network. In 2020 I was presented with the Roy Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to Heart Failure.
Alongside my clinical work, I have a strong academic track record. My research has been published in leading medical journals, and I continue to play a key role in clinical trial leadership. From 2015-2024, I was first Honorary Senior Lecturer and then Honorary Reader in Cardiovascular Sciences at University of Manchester. During this time, I also served as the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) specialty co-lead for Cardiovascular Research in Greater Manchester.
I currently serve on the education committee of the national heart rhythm society and on the research committee of the national heart failure society.
I am regularly invited to speak at international conferences.
