Specialises in
I am a Consultant Cardiologist with over 25 years’ experience in cardiology, including nearly 20 years as an NHS Consultant. I have extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing both routine and complex heart conditions.
I am accredited by the British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) in cardiac pacing and regularly perform coronary angiography and pacemaker implantation, as well as reporting nuclear cardiology studies. In addition to general cardiology, I have a special interest in preventative and sports cardiology, supporting both athletes and non-athletes with tailored cardiac assessment, lifestyle advice, and exercise prescription to optimise heart health.
I manage a wide range of heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, angina, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias (such as atrial fibrillation and palpitations), valvular heart disease, hypertension, syncope, and inherited cardiac conditions. I provide comprehensive assessment and care using investigations such as electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, cardiac CT scan, cardiac MRI, exercise testing, and Holter and blood pressure monitoring, and offer treatments including coronary angiography and pacemaker implantation. I have a strong interest in preventative cardiology, supporting patients in reducing their risk of future heart disease through early detection, lifestyle optimisation, and tailored medical care.
I also have expertise in sports cardiology, providing cardiac assessment and advice for athletes and physically active individuals. Alongside this, I support those who are less active or living with long-term conditions by prescribing safe and structured exercise programmes to improve heart health, wellbeing, and quality of life. My goal is to deliver patient-centred care, combining prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to support long-term cardiovascular health.
To date, I have performed over 3,000 coronary angiograms, carried out around 1,000 pacemaker procedures, and conducted approximately 1,000 exercise tests. In addition, I have reported on more than 6,000 nuclear cardiology scans over the course of my NHS practice.
I am a member of the Local Negotiating Committee in Barnsley, representing consultant interests within the NHS. I also serve as an examiner for the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). In addition, I am an Educational Supervisor for newly qualified doctors as well as for cardiology trainees (StRs), supporting their professional development and training.
