  • Pelvic pain and endometriosis

  • Prolapse surgery

I am a Consultant Gynaecologist at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, where I have worked for the past 12 years. I am the Lead for Gynaecological Oncology within the Trust. My specialist interests include menopause care, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, gynaecological oncology and colposcopy.

I have a particular focus on menopause management and am a member of the British Menopause Society. I am an accredited minimally invasive gynaecological surgeon and perform procedures including total laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy and surgery for endometriosis.

I have been involved in the development and establishment of several specialist services within the NHS, including a post‑cancer menopause clinic, a one‑stop postmenopausal bleeding clinic, a post‑coital bleeding clinic and a specialist vulval clinic. I introduced and established total laparoscopic hysterectomy with same‑day discharge, as well as laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy, within my Trust.

I am the only surgeon in the West Midlands currently offering in‑bag morcellation for laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy in women with fibroid uterus. This technique has been recognised for its patient benefits, and my work in this area was highlighted in national media. I was also awarded the Trust Innovation and Quality Improvement Award in 2021.

I am a national examiner for both the MRCOG Part 3 and BSCCP colposcopy accreditation examinations. I have a strong interest in research and act as Principal Investigator for several studies, including the Perioperative Quality Improvement Programme (PQIP). I have published over 25 papers in peer‑reviewed journals, including a Cochrane review, and contributed to book chapters.

My clinical practice includes diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopy for endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease, menopause management, hysteroscopic procedures such as MyoSure for endometrial polyps, vulval excisions for vulval intraepithelial neoplasia and vulval cancer, and vulvoscopy.

I am also actively involved in education and training, with a particular interest in simulation. I contribute as faculty and facilitator for basic and intermediate hysteroscopy courses for Health Education West Midlands.
