Professor Edward Davis
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MB ChB MSc PGCME FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics)
"I am committed to working with Little Aston to provide the very best care, with the best outcomes for all my patients."
I'm a recognised expert in the management of patients with hip and knee problems that require surgical replacement. I am an expert in the use and development of computer navigation and robotics, which improves the precision in which these operations can be performed. I am a self-confessed perfectionist, which first led me into the field of computer navigation and now into the field of robotics in an effort to improve the outcomes for my patients.
I perform a wide range of different replacements using different techniques and different types of hip and knee replacements to match the requirements of individual patient needs. I am also an expert in revision hip and knee replacement. I see patients who have worn-out or painful hip and knee replacements and use various procedures, including the very latest techniques and materials to restore patients function.
I am an acclaimed authority in the use of robotic assisted surgery and computer navigation. I am a well known advocate in the field of new technologies within arthroplasty, including the use of the Mako robot and other computer assisted surgeries.
I was proud to demonstrate the Mako robot to HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne. I also had great fun filming the use of the robot for a SKY TV show aimed at encouraging children to experience the new ways technologies are being used as well as appearing on Midlands Today and other local news programmes.
To date (Jan 2022), I have performed over 3,500 hip replacements, 1,000 knee replacements and carried out over 400 hip and knee joint revision surgery operations since 2006 in both my NHS and private practice. The National Joint Registry data for hip and knee replacement demonstrates I'm one of the top-performing surgeons in the country.
I graduated from Birmingham University in 1996 and undertook my basic and higher surgical training in the West Midlands. I undertook a year’s fellowship in revision hip and knee arthroplasty in Toronto, Canada. I hold an MSc in Trauma and a postgraduate certificate in medical education as well as the FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics).
I lead in many areas of training for both undergraduates and qualified multidisciplinary staff. I am actively involved in education and currently hold the title of Head of Academy at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, co-ordinating all undergraduate medical education. I am also the module lead for Orthopaedics at the University of Birmingham as well as being the Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics at Aston University Medical School.
Further patient feedback can be viewed on my I Want Great Care profile.
