Mr Stephen Eastaugh-Waring
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MB ChB, FRCS (Tr&Orth)
My practice is purely related to the hip joint, and covers the full breadth of hip disease and symptoms, from soft tissue injuries and impingement in the sporting patient, through treatment of arthritis in all ages, to management of the failed hip replacement with revision and reconstruction surgery.
I am consistently one of the most productive hip specialists in the Southwest and perform over 200 hip replacements per year with a further 130-150 arthroscopies, and have additional specialist expertise in treatment of young adult hip disease. My training was with Professors Learmonth and Bannister in Bristol, followed by a fellowship in Toronto with Professor Waddell.
I can empathise fully with your desire as a patient to regain full function from your joints. I use a muscle sparing approach which allows patients to mobilise rapidly and achieve full weight bearing immediately post operatively. My chosen implants are backed up by long term published evidence to give confidence in their performance.
I have entrusted oversight roles both nationally, being the Chair of the Intercollegiate Examinations board for Orthopaedic Surgery, and locally, being the Divisional Director for the Avon Orthopaedic Centre and the local Orthopaedic Major Trauma service.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, North Bristol NHS Trust and University Hospital, Bristol.
I have an active lifestyle myself with two lovely children and maintain fitness by competing in triathlon races, completing Ironman yearly for the last two years.
