Professional profile
I consult at the Spire Harpenden Hospital on Wednesday evenings. I graduated from The M.S. University, Baroda, India in 1990. I underwent a four year postgraduate residency in Orthopaedics, a structured intensive training programme which involved research, publication and also hands-on surgical experience and training. This culminated in a Master's degree in Orthopaedics (M.S. Orthopaedics).
In the UK, I underwent Higher Surgical training in the South East Thames Region (Guy's and St.Thomas'). During this period, I completed M.Ch (Liverpool), FRCS (Gen Surgery Glasgow) and FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics). I spent a year of advanced surgical training at the Guy's Hospital London, Knee Unit and furthered my skills in knee sports injuries, revision arthroplasty. I worked as a Consultant in Medway Hospitals NHS Trust and King's College Hospital, London.
I was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Luton and Dunstable foundation trust. I have brought many innovative ideas to the L&D since I joined; special mention to the formation of the Hip and Knee Surgery Unit for complex/revision arthroplasty, and introduction of computer navigation techniques for knee replacement.
I believe that an important aspect of my role as a consultant involves research, teaching and also clinical management. I am the clinical lead for the hip and knee One-Stop Clinic, infection control, orthopaedic trauma, thromboprophylaxis and Foundation Trust Benchmarking. My areas of special interest include Sports Injuries of the knee including arthroscopic ACL, reconstruction, cartilage transplantation, primary and revision knee and hip replacements and unicompartmental knee replacements. For my contribution to the L&D hospital, I was awarded a Clinical Excellence award for the year 2008-2009. I run a Knee Sports Injury Clinic at L&D on a Wednesday Morning.
