Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Matthew Hearth at Spire include:
Lower limb surgery including total hip and knee replacement, and revision of previous hip and knee replacement; knee arthroscopy including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, young patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis
I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex and Spire London East Hospital, Essex, offering private lower limb orthopaedic surgery in our clean and comfortable private hospital.
I have a special interest in lower limb reconstruction. This includes hip and knee replacement surgery and the revision of hip and knee replacements (surgery for patients who have had a previous hip or knee replacement, and require a repeat operation). In addition, I perform knee arthroscopy, cartilage regeneration surgery and knee ligament reconstruction. I also perform osteotomy (re-alignment) surgery around the knee for young patients with osteoarthritis. My current research interests revolve around improving pain relief following joint replacement. I am developing techniques whereby patients would spend only one night in hospital following hip or knee replacement.
My approach to my private practice at Spire Hospitals mirrors that of my NHS practice, providing modern, evidenced-based treatments. I endeavour to always be available for my patients and provide a kind voice when needed.
I joined Basildon & Thurrock (Essex) University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in January 2009.
I obtained my primary medical degree from University College London in 1993. My orthopaedic surgical training was via Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospitals. My initial training in orthopaedics and trauma was supplemented by Fellowships in lower limb reconstruction. Further Fellowships included Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, King's College Hospital and Travelling Fellowships in North America and the UK.
