Revisional hip and knee replacment
I qualified in 1988 after training at Oxford University medical school. Following basic surgical training I became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (London) in 1992.
My specialist orthopaedic training was at the Nuffield orthopaedic centre in Oxford where I was a university clinical lecturer for 6 years including 2 years of specialist training in hip and knee surgery.
I was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, with a special interest in hip and knee surgery, at the Leeds General Infirmary in July 1999. Since becoming a consultant in Leeds I have spent three years as clinical director leading the development and opening of the new elective orthopaedic centre at Chapel Allerton Hospital.
I was the national clinical lead for hip and knee surgery at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement until March 2007 and now work with Patient Safety First, a national campaign to improve the safety and quality of healthcare, as the clinical lead for safer surgery.
