I have been an NHS consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology at Sunderland Royal Hospital since 1994, and previously a lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Aberdeen. I have clinical sessions in both obstetrics and gynaecology and have active research interests in labour management and miscarriage. I am Director of Research for the Trust and Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Health Science, University of Sunderland.

I offer general gynaecological private care, including management of menstrual (‘period’) problems, pelvic pain (including endometriosis), urinary incontinence, miscarriage (including recurrent miscarriage). I am able to support requests for pregnancy termination (both medical and surgical methods).

Surgical procedures include: Hysteroscopy (including endometrial ‘Novasure’ ablation for heavy periods), Laparoscopy (including management of ovarian cysts and endometriosis), Pelvic floor repair (including collagen graft repair), Hysterectomy (vaginal, abdominal & laparoscopically assisted), Reversal of female sterilisation, Urinary incontinence procedures (Tension-free Vaginal Tape), Termination of Pregnancy, Early pregnancy Ultrasound.

Personal profile

I manage busy professional and family lives, with two daughters (17 and 25) and a very active 4 year old grandson. Outside medicine I enjoy skiing, golf, cycling and (watching) rugby. Within medicine I lecture and teach nationally and internationally, particularly in the areas of obstetric emergency skills/drills training and human factors/patient safety. I remain involved with training in obstetrics and gynaecology at national level developing the postgraduate curriculum in the specialty.
