Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Jeremy Latham at Spire include:
I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in hip surgery. I was appointed to Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust in 1998. I did my medical training at Oxford and trained in orthopaedic surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, The Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. When I do a hip operation, I use a variety of implants, both cemented and uncemented depending on the underlying problem and technical requirements. I am also experienced in less invasive surgical techniques.
I am a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association and a member of the British Hip Society. I specialise in primary and revision hip replacement surgery. My particular interests are: Hip replacement for younger patients. Hip replacement for complex problems such as dysplasia and Perthesa disease.
Every year I do about 250 primary hip replacements and 40-50 revision operations. I audit the results of my operations and conduct research projects on the use of large bearings in hip replacement surgery.
I recently set up Southampton Orthopaedics: Centre for Arthroplasty and Revision Surgery at University Hospital Southampton. This major new Centre uniquely combines expert surgery with groundbreaking research into the mechanics and biology of joint replacements. The Centre was set up to deal with the problem of failed metal on metal hips, which have caused a huge amount of controversy in the last few years. I have particular expertise in the surgical treatment of these hips and Southampton is now one of the leading centres for revision surgery.
I am a director and shareholder of Mosaic Healthcare Limited which provides consultancy services to the Hospital, such as independent appraisals and medical legal reviews for up to two and half days per month.

Looking after my patients is hugely important to me, and being a hip surgeon is a way of life. I spend as much time as possible with my young family, and try to fit in playing the piano (badly). I've managed to go skiing in the last couple of years and am intermittently a fair weather sailor on friends' boats. There's not much time left for anything else.Back to top
Mr Latham is a director and shareholder of Limbworks Ltd which provides consultancy services to the Hospital in relation to the Spire Perform Centre, for 10 days per year. Duties include advising on business development, recruitment, staff professional development and regular review of musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment trends. Payment for the above services is £2,000 per day. He also has a 5% financial interest in the Spire Perform centre, Southampton, which he purchased at fair market value based on a future cash flow projection.Back to top
