I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon who treats a wide range of conditions affecting the urinary system. These include kidney stones, urinary tract infections, foreskin problems (including circumcision), vasectomy and scrotal swellings, and prostate problems such as difficulty passing urine.
I graduated in medicine from the University of Manchester in 1997 and trained in surgery and urology in the North West of England. During my training, I was awarded the Keith Yeates Gold Medal for outstanding performance in the FRCS (Urol) examination. I also completed a research doctorate (MD) in 2008, focusing on prostate cancer.
Since being appointed as a Consultant at Salford Royal Hospital in 2009, I have provided general urology care, with a special focus on kidney and urinary tract stones. I offer a full range of treatments, including minimally invasive (keyhole) procedures and non-invasive shockwave therapy (ESWL) to break up stones. Preventing stones from returning is an important part of my work, and I support patients with clear advice to help reduce future risk. I have also developed specialist expertise through further training in the UK and internationally in centres in Paris, Amsterdam and Turin.
Alongside my clinical work, I am actively involved in improving medical training and standards. I hold a postgraduate diploma in Medical Education and work as an Associate Dean for Health Education England in the North West. I am also the Educational Director for the Greater Manchester Cancer Academy, helping train and develop the urology workforce. I have held senior roles in surgical education, contributed to national training standards, and supported the assessment of surgeons through the Royal College of Surgeons.
I also have a strong interest in professional standards and supporting doctors in practice. I have led medical appraisal and revalidation at Salford Royal and now serve as Responsible Officer for the Northern Care Alliance, with responsibility for the wider medical workforce.
I work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including two female urologists, to provide a comprehensive and supportive service for patients with a range of urological conditions.
