Mr David Hargreaves

My NHS post is as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon for the Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust. Having graduated in London, I underwent my orthopaedic training in Oxford and St Mary's Hospital, NW Thames. Plastic and microsurgical skills were learnt while training in London. My specialist training in hand surgery was gained in London and Sydney, Australia. I have been on visiting fellowships to Zurich and the Mayo Clinic in the USA which are also world-leading centres, to learn the most current developments in my specialist field.

My clinical practice exclusively involves conditions of the upper limb - hand, wrist and elbow. These include traumatic and rheumatological problems. My particular interest in arthroscopic surgery of the wrist and elbow has led to the development of new techniques such as capsular shrinkage of the wrist. I regularly treat sports injuries including professional sailors, cricketers, footballers and boxers.

I take pride in the personalised service that I offer to patients. I work closely with physiotherapists, hand therapists and rheumatologists and encourage a multi-disciplinary approach when appropriate.

Medical Legal Work: I also undertake Medical Legal Examinations for hand, wrist and elbow problems. I can provide medical reports both for claimants and defendants.
