Mr Darren Lewis

BMedSci, BM, BS, FRCSEd(Plast)
I am a fully accredited NHS Consultant Plastic Surgeon on the General Medical Council's specialist register for plastic surgery. I began my surgical career in Stoke-on-Trent before moving to Newcastle upon Tyne to complete my Higher Surgical Training in Plastic Surgery, obtaining the FRCS fellowship qualification in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. During my time at Newcastle, I developed a sub-specialist interest in Burn Care and began my research into ways of improving outcomes for burns victims. This culminated in a post-graduate fellowship at the prestigious Western Australia Burns Service. My current research interests include tissue engineering, cell culture technology and looking at ways of improving scarring outcomes.
I am widely experienced in all aspects of general plastic surgery procedures, especially in reconstructive surgery, burn care, general skin surgery including skin cancers, body contouring after massive weight loss, and breast surgery. I am a member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) at New Cross Hospital. I regularly teach junior doctors, including trainee plastic surgery registrars and examine on the West Midlands Advanced Plastic Surgery Course. I am a full member of The British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.
