Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Sharon Marlowe at Spire include:
All areas of infectious diseases, general internal medicine, Excessive fatigue, Skin and soft tissue infections, Gastroenteritis, chronic diarrhoea, Tropical and Parasitic infections, Travel medicine, Gastroenteritis, Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections, Tuberculosis and Leprosy, Skin and soft tissue infections, Hepatitis B & C, Chronic bone infections and Small Intestinal Bowel Infections.
I originally trained as a doctor at Bristol University and have gone on to train in some of the premiere centres for infectious diseases, tropical medicine and clinical microbiology in the UK and around the world.
In addition to general infectious diseases, I have a particular interest in tropical diseases and infections in returning travellers, chronic infections including tuberculosis, HIV and viral hepatitis.
I worked and was awarded an MD for my research at the world famous London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I went on to be appointed as a consultant at Flinders University Hospital, Australia. My experience has also included three years in Ethiopia and Nepal. I have a strong research background, initially running public health programmes in HIV in Africa for the Department for International Development (DFID), then carrying out international clinical trials in mycobacterial diseases. I went on to work in Birmingham and Manchester before returning to make my home back in Bristol. I have been appointed as a consultant in the NHS and have worked with the Health Protection Agency in the south west on their TB programme. Currently, I am involved in research into Hepatitis C with the University of Bristol and am an honorary consultant at the BRI in Infectious Diseases and Viral Hepatitis.
I run the Post Travel Clinic here at Spire Bristol Hospital. This is a clinic for patients returning from travelling and may have symptoms or conditions contracted while away.

I was born in South America and my interest in the illnesses caused by tropical parasites and bugs has not waned since I left. I have travelled for pleasure and work around South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Although I have settled in Bristol with my husband and two children, international travel has not been curtailed, but now involves the whole family.
I am a keen hiker and have hiked in the Himalayas, Andes and Pyrenees. Adventure is never far away with White Water Rafting in Nepal and sea kayaking in Baja California and the Sounds of New Zealand. I enjoy horse riding, scuba diving and sailing. Relaxation comes from singing in choirs from the Bristol Choral Society to the Bristol Gurt Lush Choir.Back to top
