Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Paul Hart at Spire include:
I am a consultant anaesthetist with over 20 years experience as a specialist in pain management. I work at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Spire Harpenden Hospital. I have been Clinical Lead for Pain Management at West Herts. Between 2006 and 2010, I was the Clinical Director of the Department of Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Pain Management. Prior to this appointment I was the Trust Lead for Clinical Effectiveness (2002-2006).
I gained my medical qualifications from the University of Leicester Medical School in 1986. The following year I began my anaesthetic training in London. I was awarded the FRCA in 1996 and three years later, started work in my current post.
During the 10 year training period I undertook research and gained additional clinical experience working for two years at UCSF in San Francisco (1992-94) as a Visiting Assistant Professor. In 1995, I spent a year “in industry” with the pharmaceutical company SmithKline Beecham (now GSK) working as a researcher on drug development project teams.
Throughout my years as a consultant I have continued to develop and learn - consolidating my knowledge and diversifying my experience. My main professional/clinical interest is in the management of chronic pain. At the inception of the Faculty of Pain Medicine I was awarded the postnominals FFPMRCA. My clinical work also incorporates Intensive Care Medicine and in 2011 I was awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FFICM).
I am actively involved in training anaesthetists and pain specialists - I am a member of the London Pain Training Group. I work within the School of Anaesthesia at the London Deanery and as an Educational Supervisor at West Herts Department of Anaesthesia. I have pursued clinical interests beyond Anaesthesia, Pain Management and Intensive Care. My role as Trust Lead for Clinical Effectiveness involved the facilitation, implementation and monitoring NICE guidance/standards in West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
I aim to continually develop and improve both the clinical outcomes and experience of my patients along with my professional knowledge and skills. I am a clinical specialist inspector for the Care Quality Commission (CQC). I undertake an annual appraisal, and five-yearly revalidation, that includes reviews of both audits and surveys of patient (clinical) outcomes and patient experience.
At the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships, I was an emergency medical team leader attending to the athletes competing in the Olympic Stadium. I have gained certification (RFU level 3) to provide "Immediate Care in Sport”.
