Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Mark Wright at Spire include:
I perform over 300 small incision phacoemulsification (modern small incision) cataract surgeries annually with over 99% as a day case. My cataract outcomes are as follows: over the past three years (1,173 consecutive cases), 96% of my patients saw 6/12 or better postoperatively (comparative figure is 91% from the national cataract audit). My capsular rupture rate, the most commonly sited measurement of surgical dexterity was 0.6% (1.9% national cataract audit).
I co-lead the oculoplastic (eyelid and socket) service for Lothian.
Audit of surgical outcomes form the backbone of revalidation: I was the inaugural audit secretary for the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society. I have a keen interest in teaching and have, for the past 10 years, ran the undergraduate ophthalmology course at Edinburgh University.
