I provide a comprehensive and personally-tailored service for patients with endocrine and diabetic conditions. Multidisciplinary assessment is available for patients with obesity or diabetes, with access to an expert dietitian and diabetic specialist nurse for patients under my care.
Thyroid or parathyroid patients who require a surgical opinion benefit from my close collaboration with a very experienced thyroid surgical team.
I qualified in medicine from the University of Birmingham in 1994 with a 1st class honours degree in Physiology. After becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1998 I returned to London to become a Medical Research Council Clinical Research Fellow at Hammersmith Hospital under the supervision of Professor Steve Bloom.
My original research on the role of the gut hormones PYY, oxyntomodulin and ghrelin in the regulation of food intake culminated in a PhD in Physiology, awarded in 2005. Obesity surgery is believed to act through alterations in the release of these appetite-regulating hormones.
I was appointed Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Barnet Hospital in 2006 and continue to have a specialist interest in the clinical management of obesity.

Personal profile
I am married (to a dietitian) and have two young children (aged three and six years). I spent my childhood in Potters Bar and went to school in Elstree. My many interests include tennis, skiing, ice-skating, music and theatre, art-house films, modern art and design, 20th century furniture and technological gadgets!
