I joined St George’s University Hospital as consultant cardiac electrophysiologist/senior lecturer in the summer of 2010. My prior appointment was assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, where I served in the division of cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology for four years.
After receiving my medical degree from the faculty of medicine at Cairo University, Egypt, I completed a residency and obtained an MSc in cardiovascular disease at Cairo University Hospitals. Subsequently, I completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at SUNY at Syracuse, New York, and the George Washington University Medical Center, Washington, DC, USA. I then undertook a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and subsequently a sub-specialty fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Loyola University, Chicago. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
My areas of interest include ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. My research focuses on novel techniques to identify the site of origin of ventricular arrhythmias using three dimensional mapping technology. I hold intellectual property in this field.
I am the founding chairman of the annual London Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia Symposium.
