Professional profile
I qualified in Cape Town in 2000. Following completion of my housejobs at the University of the Free State Academic Hospitals, I completed a year of medical national service. I worked as a Trauma Surgery Registrar and Police Surgeon in a deprived area outside Cape Town.
I moved to the UK in 2003 and completed a surgical training rotation in the east of England, followed by specialist training in Clinical Radiology from 2005-2010 in the West Midlands. This included subspecialty training in Interventional Radiology at University Hospital Birmingham and Heart of England Foundation Trusts.
I was appointed as a Consultant Interventional Radiologist in 2010 at Heart of England Foundation Trust (HEFT). Since then I have developed a particular interest in Uroradiology, both diagnostic and interventional, and I am one of two radiologists who support the Urology Multidisciplinary Team at HEFT (the largest Urology MDT in the Midlands).
I have developed a special interest in:
Multiparametric MRI of the prostate,
Penile MRI,
CT of the abdomen and urinary tract,
Ultrasound of the abdomen and urinary tract,
Transrectal Ultrasound of the Prostate and biopsy of the prostate
Interventional Uroradiology: Nephrostomy, Ureteric Stent, Varicocoele embolisation, percutaneous nephrolithotomy access.
Image guided biopsies and drainages.
I have a very busy NHS uroradiology practice and report in excess of 800 Multiparametric Prostate MRI’s a year and perform more than 200 Transrectal Ultrasound guided biopsies of the prostate a year. I perform in excess of 500 interventional radiology procedures per year.
I am currently the lead for interventional radiology training at HEFT and the lead for interventional radiology clinical governance.
