Professional profile
I studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and did postgraduate studies in East Anglia including at Addenbrooke's and Papworth Hospitals. I studied for a PhD in Interstitial Lung Disease under Professor Athol Wells at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. I have been a consultant in respiratory medicine since 2010, initially in Coventry, before moving to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester in 2014 to develop the Interstitial Lung Disease service.
My subspecialty is Interstitial Lung Disease ('pulmonary fibrosis'), otherwise known as ILD. This includes disease caused by exposure to dusts like asbestos and to organic particles (hypersensitiity pneumonitis or extrinsic allergic alveolitis), as well as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), where the cause is not known. I also have an interest in patients who have lung problems related to rheumatological disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue disease and vasculitis, and also sarcoidosis.
I also see patients with a variety of respiratory conditions and complaints: asthma, bronchitis and COPD; lung infection and bronchiectasis; lung shadows and lung cancer; blood clots, pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension; occupational lung disease; unexplained breathlessness and cough.
I am actively involved as principal investigator in a number of trials of new medications for ILD at the Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.

Personal Profile
I live with my wife and two children in a village on the Northamptonshire/Leicestershire borders. I spend my weekends driving my daughter to ballet or my son to rugby and enjoy spending time with the family, except for occasionally when I'm standing in the pouring rain at the side of a rugby pitch!
