Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr David A Francis at Spire include:
I trained in neurology at the National Hospital, Queen Square and Guy's Hospital, London. My PhD was awarded by the University of London following research on the immunogenetics of multiple sclerosis at the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square. I have been a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians since 1996 and I was appointed as a Consultant Neurologist and Senior Lecturer in Neurology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and the Manor Hospital in Walsall in 1990. I have contributed to numerous publications and book chapters, and I have had several articles published on multiple sclerosis. I have also been the principal investigator for clinical trials involving Interferon-beta, Copaxone and other therapeutic agents at the multiple sclerosis research clinic in Birmingham.
I have over 25 years of clinical neurology experience and subspecialty training in Neurophysiology, I am able to assess all common, and uncommon, neurological problems from initial consultation, through personal neurophysiological evaluation, to diagnosis and treatment without involving other specialists.
I retired from NHS practice in August 2015. However, I have continued to run some specialist NHS clinics at the Manor Hospital and have maintained his links with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I have continued to attend weekly meetings at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where my colleagues (neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and specialist nurses) discuss complex cases. These weekly meetings are also an important element in the continuing in-service training which is vital and mandatory for all practicing physicians.
