MA FRCP, MD
I trained at Oxford University and qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital with triple honours. Following this I embarked on a training programme at the UK's leading cardiac centres (Royal Brompton Hospital, St George’s Hospital, and Barts and the London Chest Hospital). During my training I completed a research degree into the genetic causes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
I have been a consultant since 2005 at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College NHS Trust and Watford General Hospital, West Herts NHS Trust. I established and lead the Inherited Cardiac Conditions service at both sites. This service sees patients with both cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy and ARVC) and channelopathies such as Brugada syndrome. In my general cardiology practice I manage patients with a wide variety of complaints including chest pain, palpitations and heart failure. I also run the pregnancy and heart disease service for West Hertfordshire, seeing pregnant women with known or suspected heart disease.
I am an expert in the evaluation of sports people and pre-participation screening and I’m on the FA panel for expert cardiac opinion. I am the cardiologist for several premiership football teams including Arsenal, Fulham and Watford football clubs. I am an expert advisor to the Cardiomyopathy Association.
I have published numerous research papers in leading cardiology journals and lecture - both nationally and at international conferences. I currently has a very active research programme into the assessment of sudden cardiac death risk.
