Having obtained a first in chemical engineering at Imperial College, I worked briefly in the city before commencing my undergraduate medical education. Having qualified at Kings College London, I went on to obtain the FRCS (Edinburgh) in 1981 and FRCS (England) the same year. I entered oncology in 1982 obtaining the FRCR in 1985 and was subsequently appointed as a consultant in clinical oncology.
I have been Director of Continuing Professional Development, member of the Education Board and the Training Accreditation Committee of the Royal College of Radiologists; during this period I was also a committee member of the Academy of Royal Colleges. I am currently a member of the Accreditation Committee and a member of the Appraisal Approvals Panel of the Postgraduate Medical and Education Training Board. I am also a expert reviewer in oncology for the Healthcare Commission. My clinical interests are centred on the management of breast and colorectal cancer.
