Spire Dunedin Hospital Private GP Service is tailored to provide you with rapid access to high levels of clinical expertise at a time convenient to you on the same day as your call.

Usually, a 15-minute consultation is suitable for minor problems and ailments. However, if you need longer, we also offer 30-minute appointment times, when you can discuss your health issues in-depth.

Your GP may suggest and arrange further investigations at the hospital including blood tests, CT scans, MRI scans, make a referral to a specialist consultant or write a private prescription.

Male and female GPs make up our team of experienced general practitioners who are supported by the area's leading consultants across many specialties that have access to the very latest in diagnostic equipment.

Spire Dunedin Hospital operates varied opening hours to suit patient requirements; appointments are usually available on weekdays and Saturday mornings.

Spire Dunedin hospital operates on a flat fee, pay-as-you-go basis, payable at the time of appointment. Please remember to check that you are either insured for any ongoing diagnostics or referrals or that you have alternative arrangements in place to meet the costs.

Our private GP service gives you the flexibility in arranging an appointment to suit you with clinics running in the evenings. You will see an experienced local GP, who will undertake a consultation, in a discrete and confidential manner, and provided in relaxed but professional environment. Our highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced local GPs are committed to providing exemplary care focused on you and your health requirements.

When can I be seen?

We offer morning, afternoon and evening appointments during the working week.

We also offer some Saturday morning appointments, available only if booked in advance.

Will my insurer cover the cost of the consultation?

It is worth checking with your health insurance provider, as an increasing number of providers will cover the cost of medical investigations, although an authorisation code will be required from your insurer.

Payment will be taken on the day via a debit or credit card, cash or cheque. 

What about emergency treatment?

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer emergency treatment. For patients requiring emergency treatment, please contact your own GP, NHS 111, or your local Accident and Emergency department.
