Professional profile

I trained in paediatric surgery at the University of Verona, Italy before joining Manchester, UK as a fellow in paediatric surgery and urology.

In 2007 I was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Urologist at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Before attaining a 12-month sabbatical, in 2009, from my NHS consultant post which allowed me to move to the United States and obtain the Paediatric Urology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

I currently work as a full time paediatric urologist at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and I am also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Human Development School of Biomedicine, University of Manchester. I am an internationally recognised expert for genital and urological paediatric and adolescent reconstruction.

My main clinical interest is the Bladder Exstrophy Complex and Epispadias for which I am one of the main exstrophy surgeons in the UK. I lead the Bladder Exstrophy Unit in Manchester, one of the two commissioned centres for the treatment of this group of conditions in the UK. I also offer support to colleges abroad involved in the treatment of exstrophy and epispadias. I have developed particular knowledge and skills in the treatment of paediatric and adolescent varicocele and have created a Varicocele Paediatric Clinic in Manchester which offers up to date care for children with this condition.

I am currently the principal investigator for the Randomized Prospective Controlled Study On The Effect Of Surgery On Fertility In Adolescent With Varicocele.

I have published over 50 articles in major international scientific journals and presented more then 80 abstracts in the UK, Europe and United States. I am a regular reviewer for Journal of Paediatric Urology, Journal of Urology and British Journal of Urology for bladder exstrophy, varicocele and general paediatric urology.
