I offer Laparoscopic General, Upper GI and Weight Loss Surgery at Spire Hartswood Hospital.
My specialty is keyhole surgery for hernias, gallstones, heartburn, cancer of the oesophagus (gullet) and stomach and weight loss surgery. I also perform a number of novel endoscopic techniques to treat early cancer and pre-cancerous conditions.
I was admitted to one of the top medical schools of India, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute with high merit. Following my graduation, I moved to the United Kingdom for surgical training. I then obtained Membership and Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and obtained a post-doctoral qualification from research performed at University of Oxford.
Following my doctoral research at Oxford University, I completed All Wales Higher Surgical Training Programme. I gained advanced experience doing focused fellowships at world-renowned centres of excellence. I was a Senior Laparoscopic Fellow at ICENI Centre, Colchester (for keyhole surgery). Following this I spent a year at the St James University Hospital, Leeds (for cancer surgery). I then completed coveted and much sought after Ethicon Bariatric Fellowship at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton (for weight loss surgery).
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Venkatesh Jayanthi at Spire include:
General surgery
Bariatrics
Consultant Surgeon, Broomfield Hospital, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust
I play badminton regularly and have started playing cricket for a local club after an eight year gap (very rusty). I love long distance running and have completed two 10K races, both completed in under an hour, simultaneously raising money for Macmillan. I am one of the lead surgeons in a charity ‘Out to Africa’. I travel out to Zambia to teach / spread my passion of keyhole surgery to young and budding surgeons in Zambia. Above all, I love spending time with my family, especially my 7 year old son, who loves running and swimming. I am looking forward to a 3K run together with him.
For me, nothing beats an evening in watching a movie with my family. I also enjoy listening to a variety of music including Jazz, Bollywood and Indian Classical when they fall asleep!
