Chronic pain and painful conditions, anaesthetics.
I trained in Cape Town, South Africa and graduated in 1980. I moved to the United Kingdom in 1987 and was appointed as a consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Management in 1993.I initially worked in Northampton before moving to Leicester in 2001. I am based at the Leicester General Hospital and also work at LOROS where I am involved in the management of patients with cancer-related pain.
My clinical interests involve the management of patients with persistent (chronic) pain, including back and neck pain, joint and muscle pain, neuropathic pain, and pain following trauma.
I have a special interest in patients with cancer-related pain. I also undertake medico-legal work.
My treatments include medications, complementary and physical therapies and nerve blocks which include ablations of nerves with radio-frequency (microwave).
Persistent pain (chronic pain) of the back and neck, chronic muscle and joint pain, neuropathic pain, chronic abdominal pain, complex regional pain syndrome, cancer related pain.

I worked as a cartoonist on a newspaper before going to University. My father told me to get a proper job, so I studied medicine. I still draw when I get time. I keep chickens and enjoy watching rugby. I am an avid Tigers supporter but still shout for South Africa when they play England!Back to top
