Our consultants
Our leading female urology consultants, Mr Shibbs Datta and Mr Oleg Tatarov, have extensive experience in assessing and treating even the most complex urology cases. They both have a wealth of experience from their local NHS posts where they practice at the University Hospital of Wales.
Mr Datta and Mr Tatarov run a tertiary referral service for complex female urological conditions accepting referrals from South Wales and beyond. In addition, Mr Tatarov’s practice involves the care of patients with neuro-urological conditions such as MS (multiple sclerosis) affecting mostly women.

Our specialist urologists routinely collaborate with the gynaecology consultant team to ensure we use a holistic approach to patient care and achieve great outcomes. They work together as a multi-disciplinary team, discussing each individual patient requiring a surgical intervention to decide the most appropriate procedure.
All of our diagnostic tests are performed with state of the art technology with the help of an experienced radiology team.
Our out-patient diagnostic tests include, blood tests, urine tests, uro-dynamics, ultrasound, CT and MRI.
Conditions and treatment options
Often symptoms may be treated conservatively with medication or physiotherapy. Your consultant will take time to discuss your diagnosis and ensure you are fully informed regarding your treatment options. If this includes a surgical procedure you can rest assured that Spire Cardiff Hospital performs a high volume of urological procedures for a wide range of conditions.
We offer treatment for a range of conditions including:
- Haematuria (visible and non-visible blood in the urine)
- Overactive bladder (passing urine frequently with urgency and in some cases urgency incontinence)
- Stress Urinary Incontinence (incontinence of urine on coughing, sneezing or physical exertion)
- Painful Bladder Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis (pain felt in the pelvic area frequently associated with urinary symptoms)
- Urinary Tract Infections (including recurrent and difficult to treat infections)
- Urinary retention (difficulty passing urine)
To treat these conditions, we have several options:
- Injection of peri-urethral bulking agents for stress urinary incontinence
- Cystoscopy, including other diagnostic procedures such as biopsy and bladder hydrodistention
- BOTOX bladder injections for overactive bladder symptoms
