MP Jeff Smith at new Spire Manchester Hospital

In January, Spire Manchester Hospital celebrated the progress of its new West Didsbury-based development, with a visit from Labour MP for Withington, Jeff Smith. Construction of the new hospital started in April 2015, and is due to open its doors in early 2017.

Manchester councillor, Matt Strong, joined Jeff Smith for the tour and discussion on the positive impact the hospital will have on the local community. Spire Manchester’s hospital director, Chris Chadwick, led the tour of the site which started on the top level and explored each custom-designed floor back down to ground level.

Jeff Smith MP, commented: “This is a major project and one of the biggest developments we have seen in South Manchester in recent years. The hospital will be a great addition to the local community, providing jobs for local people as well as an excellent standard of care in leading edge facilities. We’re very supportive of the project and look forward to seeing the hospital open its doors next year.”

The new development is planned to be equipped to undertake a wide range of services, including highly complex surgery and medicine (up to and including that requiring Level 3 ITU care) with advanced diagnostic and imaging equipment. The new hospital is planned to also have a hydrotherapy pool, a hybrid theatre and training facilities with a 150 seat education centre.

Chris Chadwick, commented: “The project has made real progress and it is exciting and impressive to see how far the project has come since breaking ground last April. The structural build is now complete, which means we can now focus on ensuring the interior environment of the hospital is a welcoming environment for our patients, visitors and staff. I am proud to show the hospital to our local MPs and councillors and to have their vital support as we progress through the journey.”
