Gastric sleeve surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) at Spire Manchester Hospital

Reduces feelings of hunger and capacity to eat by shrinking your stomach.

At Spire Manchester Hospital, our highly skilled surgeons and expert aftercare team offer gastric sleeve surgery to help you lose weight if severe obesity is affecting your health.

During gastric sleeve surgery, your surgeon will remove part of your stomach. This reduces your stomach size, limiting the amount you can eat and reducing your appetite.

Talking about gastric sleeve surgery

How much does Gastric sleeve surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) cost at Spire Manchester Hospital

It’s a common operation to have done privately, and our inclusive prices and access to payment plans make it easy and more affordable, even if you don’t have medical insurance.

The price shown is the ‘from price’ (ie the minimum cost of the procedure). Please note that for some procedures the actual price you are quoted may vary significantly and can increase depending on your choice of Consultant (who is an independent practitioner and not an employee of Spire). The fees charged by Consultants and Anaesthetists are set independently and are outside the control of Spire. The price may also vary depending on the type of anaesthetic, implant or drug used, and your medical history.

Spire Manchester Hospital can provide you with a single, fixed price for your procedure so there are no surprises. Please read Spire Healthcare's terms and conditions for full details of what’s included and excluded in your fixed price when paying for yourself. Finance options are available through our partner Omni Capital Retail Finance Ltd, 10 Norwich Street, London, EC4A 1BD.

Getting here

The hospital is close to the city centre, with Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria train stations being approximately 20 minutes in a taxi and only 10 minutes from Manchester Airport. We have free parking on-site for you and your visitors.

Your consultations

Your initial appointments will take place in one of our 18 accessible consultation rooms. During your consultations, we will:

  • Find out about your medical history
  • Explain the different surgical methods and what's recommended for you
  • Tell you about the general anaesthetic and how it may affect you
  • Explain your personalised aftercare, diet and exercise plans and how the surgery will affect your lifestyle in the long term
  • Discuss any risks and complications and how they may affect you personally

Your consultations give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about your treatment or aftercare. You may want to make a note of any questions you have in advance.

Once you and your consultant have decided to go ahead with gastric sleeve surgery, you’ll be assessed by a dietitian, anaesthetist and bariatric nurse specialist. You’ll also need to have a pre-operative assessment which may include:

  • An electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Blood tests
  • Blood pressure
  • Pulse

Gastric sleeve surgery: your procedure

When you come in for your operation, our staff will show you to your private en-suite room. You’ll have all the comforts and conveniences you’d expect to find in your own home while you stay with us, including:

  • TV
  • En-suite
  • Window
  • Armchair
  • Free WiFi

Once you’re settled, here’s what will happen:

  • You’ll meet your consultant and surgical team who’ll prepare you for surgery
  • Your anaesthetist will give you your general anaesthetic, so you’ll be asleep for your operation
  • Once it’s taken effect, your surgeon will make the first incisions and carry out the gastric sleeve surgery to remove part of your stomach

If you’ve come with a friend or family member, they’re welcome to wait in our lounge or restaurant while you have your operation.

Your operation will take one to two hours and you’ll be with us for one to two nights.

Your aftercare and recovery

During your stay, you’ll be given painkillers for any discomfort. Your nursing team will make sure you’re comfortable with everything you need.

We’ll have follow-up appointments with you after you leave hospital. These will be for two years after your operation, to check that you're recovering as expected. You'll also receive support from a dietitian at appointments every three months and telephone advice is available from both a dietitian and a bariatric nurse.
