Step by step

We believe in making things easy and straight forward, so we've outlined the steps in booking and paying for your treatment below.

Book an appointment

Accessing our hospital is quick and easy and you can book an out-patient appointment by contacting us directly on 0161 447 6700. Our advisors are here to help you find the best consultant for you and answer any questions you might have.

When you come to us you’ll have an initial consultation with your chosen specialist to discuss your condition and treatment path.

This may be followed by any tests, scans or investigations you may need to help your consultant decide how best to proceed. Please note that the initial consultations and any initial tests, scans and investigations will be charged separately.

Once the consultant has discussed the treatment you require, you will be given a fixed price*, subject to a satisfactory clinical assessment, which will cover all of your costs relating to your treatment from this point on.

*Please read Spire’s terms and conditions for full details of what’s included and excluded in your fixed price treatment.

A single, fixed price*

We believe in making things simple and straightforward.

That’s why once your consultant has discussed the treatment you need, in most cases we are able to offer you a single, fixed price* for your treatment so there are no surprises. That way you can focus on your recovery and rest assured you pay the price you’re given, with no hidden charges.

This price covers all costs relating to your care from that point on and is made up of your surgeon’s fee, anaesthetist fees, hospital fees such as nursing, accommodation, food, etc. and the price of any necessary prosthesis from our standard range – if you need one. Please note that some consultants collect their fees separately which will be fully explained to you.  We will also explain what payment options are available to you.

Your hospital fees will cover everything for as long as you need to stay in hospital - so you won’t get any unexpected bills if, for clinical reasons, you need to stay longer than planned.

If you do need a prosthesis, the majority of people are advised by their consultant that a standard one will be fine. However, a small number of people are advised that for medical reasons a specialist prosthesis will be used. In these instances a fixed price* will still be given to you, but it may vary from the prices you see quoted on the website.

Even after you’ve left hospital, we’re here for your clinical needs relating to your treatment or procedure. Your fixed price* includes any physiotherapy or rehabilitation sessions as advised by your consultant as well as up to two weeks of medication to take home, any bandages and the removal of dressings or stitches.

Depending on your treatment, you may also have a follow-up consultation with your surgeon, which is also included in the fixed price*.

Should you need to return to hospital for a clinical reason relating to your treatment, you won’t receive an additional bill.

For added peace of mind, implants and prostheses are usually covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee.

Very occasionally we are unable to offer treatment at an all-inclusive price due to medical circumstances. In this situation, we may offer you treatment under a ‘self-funding’ agreement, where you would pay a deposit to cover the expected costs of your care. At the end of your stay, we would invoice you for any additional care and services provided above the level of your deposit, or we would refund part of your deposit if your care costs were below those expected.

To make an appointment, you may need to be referred to one of our specialist consultants via your own GP. If you are unsure if you require a referral letter to see your chosen consultant please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0161 447 6700.

Do I have to be insured?

No. Paying for yourself with Spire is for people who do not have private health insurance, or whose insurance does not cover the treatment they need. It is a simple and manageable way to pay for private hospital treatment.

Am I still entitled to NHS care if I choose to pay for myself?

Yes. If you are eligible for healthcare in the UK you will continue to be eligible, regardless if you chose to pay for yourself privately.

Are all treatments and operations available if I’m paying for myself?

Yes. Following an initial consultation to determine an individual’s healthcare needs, all procedures are available to patients paying for themselves.

Can I choose my consultant?

Yes, although sometimes this may be done in conjunction with your GP. For some self-pay treatment, you may need a GP referral letter to book an appointment with one of our respected specialist consultants. If you are unsure if you require a referral letter to see your chosen consultant please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0161 447 6700.

You can use our consultant search to view profiles of consultants working in our hospital.

Note that some consultants do not include their fees in our fixed price treatment and charge patients separately and at different rates. We will clearly explain what options are available to you.

Will I see the same consultant every time?

Yes. We know that continuity of care is important, which is why we do our utmost to ensure that the same consultant looks after you from your first appointment through to your treatment and follow-up care.

What happens if I’ve already seen a consultant at another hospital?

If you've already seen a consultant at an NHS or other private hospital and the same specialist can provide one-off private treatment at our hospital, we'll be happy to make all the arrangements for you.

Alternatively, we can arrange treatment under a new consultant at our hospital. If you are changing your consultant, you may need a new referral letter from your GP or current consultant.

What happens if I’m paying for myself as an out-patient?

Your consultant will send you a bill for your consultation and any tests and treatments they carry out.

We will charge you separately for any tests and treatment you have during your out-patient appointments. Simply call us on 0161 447 6700 to request a price for any out-patient tests or treatments. Or just fill in the online enquiry form and we will get back you.

What happens if I’m paying for myself as an in-patient?

If you are having treatment as an in-patient we will charge you a single, fixed price* where possible.

You will need to pay for your treatment in advance, however very occasionally (approximately 1% of patients) we are unable to offer treatment at an all-inclusive price due to medical circumstances.

If I’m paying for myself, will I have a private room?

Yes. If you're staying for the day, overnight, or longer, you'll have your own private room with TV and wifi. Every room is equipped with a nurse call system, so you can get help at any time, day or night.

What’s included in the fixed price?

The one-off private treatment price will include your operation or procedure, standard prosthesis (if required), consultant and anaesthetist fees, nursing care, accommodation, physiotherapy and medication, after-care, a follow-up appointment (if you need it) and further treatment that may arise if there are any clinical complications.

Please note that some consultants and anaesthetists do not include their fees in our fixed price treatment and charge patients separately and at different rates. We will be able to explain what options are available to you.

The price does not include your initial consultations and any tests, scans and investigations you may need before you come into hospital. At the time of your consultation we will also be able to tell you the price for any tests, scans, investigations that your consultant recommends.

Once you have confirmed that you wish to go ahead and have seen your chosen specialist for an initial consultation and been able to discuss any test, scan or investigation results, we will arrange a treatment date and we will ask you to pay the fixed price in full before admission.

Please be sure to read our terms and conditions, which explains in detail what is included and excluded in your fixed price treatment.

Is the price always fixed?
