Professional profile

I have been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Northwick Park since 1996. I am a general Vascular Surgeon with a special interest in the peripheral vascular disease, the diabetic foot and varicose veins. I am particularly interested in new techniques for managing varicose veins as these are designed to be virtually pain free, allowing these treatments to be well tolerated under local anaesthetic.

I am a general vascular surgeon and I am happy to be consulted on all aspects of arterial disease including carotid disease, aortic aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease, and intermittent claudication. The majority of patients I see in the private sector have varicose veins. I am able to offer radiofrequency ablation, mechanochemical ablation (Clarivein), and glue closure for varicose veins as well as sclerotherapy or excision phlebectomeis.

I have over 20 years experience as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon. I have treated 1,000 patients with venous disease both in the NHS and in my private practice. As a Vascular Surgeon, we have to report our activity to the National Vascular Registry and in the last 5 years I performed 151 lower limb bypasses, 65 abdominal aortic anaeurysm repairs and 50 carotid endarterectomies. My outcome data is published annually by VSQIP.

I am an Associate Medical Director for LNWH NHS Trust. I have trust wide responsibility for medical staff development, appraisal, revalidation and re-licensing. I am responsible for >700 doctors. Previously I was the Clinical Director for Surgical services.

I am an elected council member for the Vascular Society. I am honoured to have recently been elected to the post of Honorary Secretary for the Society. This post is responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the society and supporting the President. I also sit on the education committee for the Vascular Society. I am a member of our Specialist Advisory Committee for Vascular Surgical training. In this role, I have been responsible for an up date of our curriculum. I am an examiner for the intercollegiate FRCS – the exams trainees take prior to becoming a consultant. I am a recognised trainer and enjoy training all levels of junior doctors, from medical students to doctors about to complete their training.
