Our new purpose-built unit offers a range of out-patient and day case procedures such as flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, gastroscopy and cystoscopy which enable clinicians to diagnose and treat certain conditions without the need for operations.
The unit is also equipped to undertake wireless capsule endoscopy, an innovative technique that uses a wireless miniature telescope (PillCam) to diagnose conditions of the small bowel.
Dr Subramaniam Ramakrishnan, consultant gastroenterologist, says that the new suite is something the hospital should feel rightly proud about.
Dr Ramakrishnan said: “Being able to make quick and precise diagnoses is crucial in ensuring patients get the best, most effective treatment. This new area will enable patients to have their procedures promptly as it provides a boost to the capacity of the hospital.
"Most of the procedures are done with minimal discomfort to the patients who are discharged usually within a few hours after they recover."
Hospital Director Verlie Brazel added: “We are constantly looking to improve the quality of our healthcare services and with the new endoscopy suite I really think we have moved our diagnostics capabilities into a new era.”
The new suite will be staffed by a dedicated endoscopy nursing team.
