Consultant Cardiologist
MA, MB BChir, FRCP, MD
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Joseph Mills at Spire include:
Chest pain, valve assessment and treatment, TAVI, cardiac arrhythmias
I am a dedicated general Cardiologist with a special interest in coronary heart disease (prevention, assessment and treatment) and risk assessment. I have received first-class training both as an undergraduate and postgraduate at Cambridge University and research training from the British Heart Foundation as a Research Fellow from 1999 to 2001 under the guidance of Professor Peter Grant at the University of Leeds. I completed my Cardiology training in Cambridge and East Anglia (predominantly at Papworth Hospital) and then had a wonderful six months in Bergen (Norway) working as a senior Fellow in Interventional Cardiology. My final period of training took place at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester and I was appointed to the post of Cardiology Consultant at the Cardiothoracic Centre, Liverpool in October 2007.
I feel fortunate and privileged to have had such high quality training and to have worked for such inspirational senior colleagues. I hope that the skills and specialist interests I have developed will benefit all my patients in the North-west and I also hope to continue both clinical and non-clinical research. I have recently been awarded a Cambridge University prize for my Doctorate of Medicine thesis.

My home-town is Birmingham, I met my wife, Michelle, on my first day at University in Cambridge and we have moved around the country together for our medical training ever since. We are now finally and happily settled in Altrincham where our three children go to school and which is so convenient for St Mary's Hospital where Michelle is a Consultant in Paediatrics and Neonatology. Ellie, Alex and Olly are the lights of our life and my hobbies these days mostly involve reading children's stories and providing a ballet/gymnastics/swimming/football taxi service. We enjoy wonderful family holidays in Abersoch and La Clusaz.
