Mr Najib Daulatzai
Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon
MBBS MSc MD FRCS
Specialises in
I am a consultant general and colorectal surgeon with a specialist interest in minimal invasive surgery (keyhole and robotic surgery). My patients are managed on an Enhanced Recovery pathway which leads to quicker recovery and early return to normal function following surgery. I also have a specialist interest in Prehabilitation, which is the process of optimising patients prior to undergoing surgery. This has been shown to result in better long-term health as well as the benefits of reduced side effects of surgery.
My clinical interests lie in colorectal cancer and benign conditions of the bowel such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis. I also specialise in treatment of proctology cases including haemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures as well as abdominal hernias.
To date, I have performed over 450 colonic and rectal resections for both cancer and benign conditions. I have performed over 300 proctology cases (including haemorrhoids, anal fistulas and anal fissures) as well as over 300 hernia operations. I am an accredited endoscopist and have performed over 500 colonoscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies.
I graduated from University College Hospital London in 2002. Following completion of my speciality surgical training, I undertook a fellowship at St. Mark’s Hospital London, where I gained extensive experience in advanced colorectal cancer, intestinal failure, and inflammatory bowel disease. I then completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic colorectal surgery at Frimley Park Hospital.
I have a strong academic interest in colorectal surgery, having authored numerous publications and presented at national and international conferences. I hold a Masters degree in Surgical Sciences from University College London and an MD research degree from Imperial College London.
I am Clinical Governance lead for General Surgery in my NHS Practice. I am responsible for ensuring that the quality of surgical care provided to patients is of the highest possible standard.
I have also introduced and am clinical lead of the Prehabilitation service at my NHS trust. This ensures patients are optimised before undergoing surgery, thereby reducing risks of surgery as well as an early return to normal function.
