Gastric sleeve surgery: what to expect at Spire Cheshire

At Spire Cheshire, we provide high-quality treatments for our patients and are extremely proud to be rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for our private hospital care. Our team of experienced bariatric surgeons offer gastric sleeve surgery to help you lose weight. They work with an expert aftercare team who can provide support and advice as you recover and help you to adjust to your new lifestyle.

You’ll have all the facilities you’d expect from a private hospital in a clean, comfortable environment.

The average weight loss following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is 70% excess weight loss. For example, a patient of 150kg with an ideal weight of 70kg will lose 70% of their excess weight (80kg) or 56kg. Their weight after treatment will be 94kg. The final weight loss can vary according to your motivation, change of diet habits and exercise.

After your operation, you’ll have expert aftercare from our team of nurses and dietitians.

Your consultations

You’ll meet one of our experienced bariatric surgeons in one of our 15 easily accessible, private consultation rooms. During the consultation, we’ll ask you about your medical history and discuss:

  • The options for your surgery
  • What the surgery involves
  • The anaesthetic and any risks or complications

You’ll have a chance to ask your consultant any questions you may have. Some people find it helps to bring a list of questions with them and make notes as they go along.

If you decide to go ahead with gastric sleeve surgery, you’ll also meet a dietitian and a weight loss nurse so they can further assess if surgery is right for you. You’ll also need to have a pre-operative assessment which may include:

  • An electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Blood tests
